Battle of the Chatbots: OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 vs. Google’s Bard – Who Reigns Supreme?
In the world of generative AI chatbots, two giants have emerged: OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 and Google’s Bard. These cutting-edge chatbots have gained popularity for their ability to engage in intelligent conversations and perform various tasks. To determine which one reigns supreme, we conducted a series of tests in seven critical categories: dad jokes, argument dialog, mathematical word problems, summarization, factual retrieval, creative writing, and coding.
For our comparison, we used the latest version of ChatGPT, specifically ChatGPT-4, and pitted it against Google’s Bard. We fed the exact same prompts into both chatbots for each test and evaluated their responses without any cherry-picking.
First, we warmed up the contest with some dad jokes. Bard impressed us with its delivery of original jokes, even though some fell flat in a dad-like way. However, it’s worth noting that three out of Bard’s five jokes were found verbatim on the internet. On the other hand, ChatGPT-4 provided accurate but unoriginal jokes, sourced from other places. Ultimately, Bard’s attempt at creating original jokes gave it the edge in this category.
While this comparison is not a scientific study, and the results could vary between sessions due to random elements, it provides a glimpse into the current capabilities of these chatbots in early April 2023.
As both Google and OpenAI continually upgrade their models, the capabilities of these chatbots are expected to evolve rapidly over time. It is also important to mention that our evaluation only focused on specific tasks and does not fully represent the overall performance and potential of these AI chatbots.
In conclusion, in the battle of the chatbots, Google’s Bard emerged as the winner in the dad jokes category, with its attempts at originality. OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 provided accurate but unoriginal jokes. As advancements continue, we can expect even more impressive AI chatbots in the future.
