Arrest Made: Buford High School Online Threat Suspect in Custody

Buford City Schools have announced that an arrest has been made in connection with an online threat directed at Buford High School. The suspect, identified as Michael Daniel Pecoits, allegedly made the threat on social media platform Snapchat, accompanied by a photo of an assault rifle in a case and the message Buford High School. Good luck.

Although the threat was made on Monday evening, the school system was not notified until after the incident. Amy Moody, Executive Secretary to the Superintendent’s Office, confirmed that Pecoits was apprehended on the Buford Middle School campus. The reason for his presence at the location has not been disclosed.

Following his arrest, Pecoits was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. In response to the incident, all schools within the Buford City School System were placed on a soft lockdown as a precautionary safety measure.

Amy Moody expressed the school system’s deep concern over the actions of the individual responsible for the threat. She emphasized that Buford City Schools does not condone any form of threats, even if the intent may not have been to cause harm. Moody extended her appreciation to the administrators, School Resource Officers, and the Gwinnett County Police Department for their efforts in maintaining the safety of Buford.

In light of this incident, the Gwinnett County Police Department has increased patrols in the area to ensure the safety of students and staff throughout the day.

Buford City Schools encourages a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. Threats or acts of violence are taken very seriously, and appropriate actions will be taken against those responsible. The school system remains committed to the well-being of its students and is working tirelessly to maintain a safe atmosphere where learning can flourish.

As the investigation continues, it is hoped that this arrest will serve as a deterrent to others who may consider engaging in similar behavior. Buford City Schools and law enforcement agencies will remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent and address any potential threats, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of all students, teachers, and parents in the community.

In conclusion, while Buford City Schools expressed their gratitude for the swift action taken to safeguard the students and staff, they emphasize the importance of maintaining an environment free from threats and violence. The school system stands united against any form of intimidation, unequivocally promoting the well-being and security of its educational institutions.
