Several African leaders and organizations have expressed their support and congratulations to Zimbabwe following a peaceful and harmonized election. The election, held on the 23rd and 24th of August 2023, has been hailed by observers as peaceful and fair.
Namibian President Hage Geingob took to Twitter to extend his warmest congratulations to President Mnangagwa on his re-election. He also congratulated the ruling party, ZANU-PF, on their victory in the peaceful elections. Geingob’s message was echoed by ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, who also conveyed his congratulations to President Mnangagwa.
Zambian politician Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party also congratulated President Mnangagwa on his electoral victory, referring to him as Comrade Mnangagwa. M’membe expressed his confidence in the President’s ability to defend Zimbabwe’s sovereignty, uphold development interests, and promote prosperity for the people.
The Pan African Christian Business Network, represented by David Richard, expressed its pride in the free, fair, and peaceful election that took place in Zimbabwe. Despite logistical challenges, Richard noted that eligible voters were able to cast their ballots.
The World Youth Assembly, based in New York, also lent its support to President-elect Mnangagwa. Ediola Pashollari, the Secretary General, commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the election.
Nelson Chamisa, the opposition leader from the CCC party, had previously emphasized the importance of fair elections. He stated that measures were in place to prevent any form of rigging and ensure a transparent electoral process.
The widespread endorsement of Zimbabwe’s election results by African leaders and organizations highlights the regional support for President Mnangagwa’s re-election. Their messages of goodwill and support signify the international community’s confidence in Zimbabwe’s democratic process.
