Adilabad District Witnesses Surge in Doctors Eyeing Political Seats
In a notable development, Adilabad district in Telangana has observed an increasing number of doctors expressing aspirations for political seats across different parties. These medical professionals are hoping to utilize their expertise and understanding of public health to better serve their communities as elected representatives.
One prominent figure in this trend is Dr. Ganesh Rathod, an esteemed doctor from Mancherial town who is currently a strong contender vying for the Congress ticket. Dr. Rathod has set his sights on the Asifabad Assembly constituency, which is specifically reserved for Scheduled Tribes. In an effort to connect with the local community, he has initiated numerous community service programs and actively participates in Congress events. Recently, he played a leading role in organizing a well-attended public meeting held in Indervelli.
Meanwhile, Dr. Neelakanteshwar Rao, an accomplished ENT surgeon based in Mancherial district, is leaving no stone unturned to secure a ticket from the Congress. Dr. Rao is keen on contesting the Mancherial Assembly segment.
Similarly, in Boath Assembly constituency, which is also reserved for Scheduled Tribes, Dr. Ashok from the town is aspiring to make his foray into politics. Both Dr. Rao and Dr. Ashok are considered frontrunners for their respective party tickets.
In the previous State Assembly elections in 2018, Dr. A Swarna Reddy of Nirmal town, Dr. P Harish Rao from Kaghaznagar, and Dr. P Rama Devi of Bhainsa entered the realm of politics as contenders. Dr. Swarna and Dr. Rama Devi stood as candidates for the BJP, while Dr. Harish represented the Congress. Unfortunately, victory eluded them. Since then, Dr. Swarna joined the BRS, and Dr. Harish shifted his loyalties to the BJP. It is highly likely that both Dr. Rama Devi and Dr. Harish will be fielded by the saffron party for the upcoming elections in the Sirpur (T) and Mudhole segments, respectively.
Dr. Samudrala Venugopala Chary, a seasoned politician, has an impressive track record. He successfully contested on the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket three times and emerged victorious from the Adilabad Parliament constituency. Additionally, he served as the MLA of Nirmal Assembly constituency for three terms. Currently, Dr. Chary holds the position of chairman at the Telangana State Irrigation Development Corporation (TSIDC). He is recognized as a senior leader in the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
As more doctors venture into the realm of politics, it remains to be seen if they can effectively resonate with the electors and truly become exemplary public representatives. Their medical backgrounds equip them with a unique perspective on public health issues, and their foray into politics has the potential to bring about positive change for the constituents they aim to serve.
The upcoming elections in Adilabad district are set to witness intriguing battles unfold as these doctors-turned-political-aspirants test their capability to connect with the electorate and offer solutions to pressing issues. Time will tell whether their medical expertise will translate into effective leadership and meaningful contributions to the welfare of their communities.
