A 71-year-old man, Dr. Babu Thomas, was taken into custody after allegedly opening fire at a police team during the arrest of his son in Kannur, a city in the southern state of Kerala, India. The incident occurred on Friday when the police team, led by Valapattanam SI, arrived at the Thomas residence to apprehend Thomas’s son, Roshan, who is involved in an assault case and several drug-related offenses. Although no one was injured in the incident, Thomas now faces charges of attempted murder.
Upon seeing the police team, Thomas reportedly locked the door, while his son managed to escape from the upper floor of the house. In an attempt to reach Roshan, the officers tried to ascend the stairs, prompting Thomas to allegedly fire at them. Thomas’s wife, Linda, has accused the police of wrongdoing, claiming that her husband was innocent. According to Linda, the police arrived with a group of individuals who were not part of the force and had personal animosity towards Roshan. She alleged that these outsiders damaged the windows and violently banged on the door, but Thomas did not intentionally shoot at the police. Additionally, Linda mentioned that her husband possesses a valid gun license.
The police, however, have clarified that they were accompanied by witnesses in the case and deny any misconduct. The investigation into the incident continues, with efforts underway to apprehend Roshan, who managed to evade capture during the chaos.
